According to Margomin on WordPress, “file sharing is a
sharing and transmitting of computer data in a network or internet with various
access levels.” File sharing allows people to obtain and transmit data using
online platforms. Peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing is a type of file sharing
that uses technology specifically for sharing data between users. This type of
data can range from music, movies, and games. There are many platforms for P2P
file sharing, including BitTorrent. The BitTorrent application can download a
movie or television show episode in a matter of minutes. With the application,
“the more files you’re willing to share, the faster any individual torrent
downloads to your computer” (Thompson). Other P2P file sharing networks, like
Kazaa and Broadband, have unequal uploading and downloading speeds, making it
slower to either share or obtain a file.
